James River

The James River

The rivers that flow into the Chesapeake Bay are the source of so much of our history. We decided to see them as the early navigators did, by sailboat. Our first adventure was the James River. This magnificent wide river was explored in the very early 1600 by the likes of John Smith, Henry Hudson, and many more to follow. On it's banks we found the the great plantations and early settlements. Much of the history has been painstakingly preserved. Along the way we visited Smithfield, Jamestown and the historic river plantations: Westover, Berkley and Evelynton.

Here is the track of our trip.
