Nantucket to New Jersey

We hated to head south without one more attempt to see Nantucket. We headed south west from Falmouth with our nose in the wind. We opted to make an overnight in Martha's Vineyard and head eastward the following day. A weather front  was scheduled to come through, so we rose early, got underway and arrived in Nantucket before the storm.

Nantucket has a large protected anchorage filled with hundreds of boats. There are only a few marina's and hundreds of mooring balls. As usual we chose rely on our own anchor. We were settled in in plenty of time to go ashore and explore before dinner. We loved the island and made plans for further exploration in the morning.

As we slept through the storm Shearwater bought us a half acre of the bay. We awoke to find ourselves about a quarter mile from where we anchored.

This is only the second time in two years Big Bruce wasn't in the exact same spot he was dropped when morning came. Fortunately, no one was behind us. It's easy to see why he couldn't hold.  Nantucket holding is notorious. When we reset Bruce we made sure we found a sandy spot.
